Farewell Friend

In Loving Memory of
Dallas Marie Eastlick
March 1994 - March 2009

Today after a long and full filled life, Dallas Marie passed away due to old age. Her poor little body just couldn't do the things that she wanted and she was blind and partially deaf at her time of passing.

Steve found our sweet Dallas at work the summer after we were married in 1994. He was working at the mill in Yreka, CA. Dallas' mom brought Dallas and two other puppies to the mill to try and find them a new home. You could tell by the way the mother looked that they hadn't eaten in a while. Steve and two other people from the mill took the puppies home that night.

Dallas has been Steve's constant companion ever since. There was not a moment while we lived in Etna that Dallas was not in the back of the truck, out running in the mountains or just following Steve around. She was a good hunting dog and loved to be outdoors. She has continued her shadowing abilities here in Bakersfield as well. You could always find her in the garage with Steve or laying at his feet in the living room or in the computer room.

While we lived in Etna, Dallas was fortunate enough to have a beautiful litter of puppies. Five to be exact. They all looked like her too. We were able to give them to loving families from all over the state. So Dallas' spirit will live on.

When we moved to Bakersfield, it was quite a change for Dallas. The weather was different and there wasn't the open mountains that she was used to. She adjusted well however and soon made her self at home. We have never had to worry about our home being broken into while Dallas was around. She was a protector, a daughter and best friend.

In the summer of 2000 we decided that it was time for Dallas to have a companion and brought home her sister, Daisy. The two have been inseparable since. Dallas and Daisy have been able to get themselves in many a situation that have called for either deep cleaning or bailing out of puppy jail.

Dallas has always been a runner and loved to run as far as her little legs could carry her. She loved to feel the wind in her whiskery face. Dallas was very recognizable by her long whiskery eyebrows, ears and beard. She was a lover dog and loved to have her ears and butt scratched. One of Dallas' favorite things to do was go outside to the back of the house and rub her backside along the exterior of the house since it was covered in stucco. When we first moved to Bakersfield we lived in a nice size apartment which had a nice long hallway. That is where we believe she discovered her back scratching talents.

As most of you know Steve and I have had fertility problems most of our marriage. We consider Dallas to have been our first child. We firmly believe that it was her task here on earth to help us get through those rough times. She has now completed her job and has passed the torch over to Sadie to be with us and comfort us. We hope that she is resting peacefully now and knows that she will never be forgotten.

We are so very grateful to have had Dallas as a member of our family and we are even more grateful that she was able to be here to meet Sadie, who loved her dearly. It is always sad when a family member leaves us, but we know that it was her time and now she will be without pain.
